When I Fall – After School [LIVE with subs]

After School – one of the nice K-pop girl groups who is overshadowed by their astronomically popular peers like SNSD and Wonder Girls – finally performed When I Fall live (full length of the song too!). It is one of the 2 songs they had released so far for 2010, the other being the more popular Because Of You.

The newcomer Raina’s vocal prowess takes centre stage in this soothing acoustic song.

I can listen to this song all day long and still not get sick of it =D

Korean Chicken Bulgogi X.X

Went to Jurong Point Banquet – a place where I have yet to savour half the dishes even though I went there loads of times before – for lunch with my Bruneian aunty and uncle. Just as I was about to relish on the thought of queuing up at the  Japanese food stall for Chicken Teriyaki rice – which is, unfortunately, no longer around – something caught my eye… A KOREAN FOOD STALL! HOHOHO. Man, I wonder who’s the kind soul who would even think of setting one up in a halal foodcourt.  ANY new exotic offering would be heartily welcomed with watery eyes and open arms……….at least from me ^^”

I wasted no time in heading for the stallholder, only to discover that my aunty had beaten me in the queue – she was fast! @.@

I ordered Chicken Bulgogi. Bulgogi actually means BBQ Beef, so I guess Chicken Bulgogi would translate to BBQ Chicken, which was exactly what I got, along with a bowl of rice, the essential kimchi and anchovies, and a bowl of soup.

Chicken Bulgogi!

(The kimchi was hiding behind the rice)

The BBQ chicken is really like what you would get straight from your Seoul Garden hotplate, plus a rich mix of cabbage and onions – and I absolutely loved the generous amounts of onion! I thought the BBQ sauce was mild-tasting, which was okay, but the meat portion was pretty fulfilling. The kimchi wasn’t that uhh sour?… which was good too, and the soup was thankfully not just water with floating particles of herbs – it actually complimented well with the rice.

So, here’s my final take……

Place : Jurong Point (Original Section), Level B1, Banquet

Price : $3.80 (Cheap!)

Rating : 4/5

Take-away message : Well worth your money!

K-Pop: “When I Fall” by After School

Not another big girl band again….that was my initial reaction, until I listened to this song. It was only a 5-sec preview, but it was enough to make me listen to the whole song….and it’s now one of my favourite songs. Very soothing and smooth, unlike the usual very upbeat songs that normally get K-pop fans crazy about…

First day of Year 1, Sem 2

Unsurprisingly, I had to drag myself out of bed.

It took me a while on the MRT to realise that I can actually take the NUH shuttle bus, and still not be late.

Three lectures to “look forward to”. HAIZ.

First up, gen physio. Nice part : 2 Goomba seniors are taking the module with us freshies :) The not-so-nice-part? The lecturer, and my grumbling stomach.

Next, (with no break after the first lecture and hence, the hitherto churning stomach), the new GEK module on modern technology in medicine. The lecturer seemed to know his stuff well, did well to assure us that we will see little of mathematical and physics equations (YES!!), and best of all, he did well to link up the bio and physical aspects of the medical field. Sweet! Just like what I expect from a life science-physics module.

A little more hesitation… and mini explosions would have occurred in the stomach…time to eat Nasi Ayam Penyet! (finally halal hohoho)

Final lecture of the day was the SSS mod Natural Heritage of Singapore. Only one thing to mention on this mod : The lecturer was so,sooo funny! He’s such a natural joker. Certainly lifted my day a bit.

Look forward to the next first lectures! That is, only after I enjoy the free day tomorrow :)

Mission ‘Sweat Camp 2009′ : Successful!

Sweat Camp was fun, and a success too!

A summary of the programme for the whole camp:

Day 1 : Tchoukball, rollerblading and football

Day 2 : High-elements, paintball, banana boat ride and wakeboarding

Day 3 : Beach games ( Volleyball, touch rugby, football-captain’s ball hybrid game, ultimate, dodgeball)

Despite the minor ‘hiccups’ like long travelling time and ‘lack of activities at night time’, the activities definitely made up for all those shortcomings. I thought tchoukball (a handball-netball-basketball hybrid game with a profound emphasis on sportsmanship haha) was an instant hit, and the banana boat ride and wakeboarding stayed true to their ‘promise’ of being the main highlights of the whole camp.

Really, kudos to the programmes committee for the great line-up, and everyone who sacrificed their sweat for the smooth running of the event.

Whether it’s doing sai gang work along with the logistics committee, accompanying the wakeboarders on the speedboat, referee-ing the ball games… I really enjoyed every moment of it. I think that’s the most important thing for me – to savour the fruit of everyone’s effort… while it happened. Plus, I got to know the committee members more up-close and personal, especially my publicity comm brothers hahaha.

I felt really glad too that all the comments on the camp T-shirt and publicity posters have been positive so far… so, good job, my publicity committee brothers XD.. I think that last minute addition of the rollerblading monkey with the iPod worked like a charm hahaha.

And the best thing is…getting such an average CAP didn’t make me feel that bad…thanks to Sweat Camp.

Now, I have to rethink about how I should study for next semester :) I guess I should keep thinking positively in order to do well. Quoting T-Bag’s favourite tagline from the drama series Prison Break Season 4 : ” The Captivity of Negativity”, which basically that means we are always being held captive by the limits we set for ourselves.

of sports and holidays

4 days more to Sweat Camp Day Zero! (Science faculty’s version of Sports Camp)

The truth is… my whole holidays so far have been like a long, personal Sweat Camp. I tried to make it a point to play football on non-sports-comm-meeting days, and uhh, also play football after sports comm meetings. Being in sports comm also presented me with the chance to try out previously unheard of sports like tchoukball, and sports which I have been out of touch with, like touch rugby.

Honestly, my ulterior motive behind this strenuous exercise regime isn’t that of physical gain, big thighs and six packs, but more of a way to relieve myself out of emotional stress. There are just many, way too many, disappointments this year, some which I couldn’t have even possibly anticipated at any time of the year (which made the experience all the more bitter).

I reallyenjoyed playing my heart out for all the football matches so far, but at the end of the day, those failures just keep coming back to haunt me, both conciously and during my sleep….guess the best remedy is to slowly accept them as facts of life and move on, so I’ll just have to keep going with my own mini Sweat Camp for now.

Just keep going, just keep going, just keep going, going, going….

neighbour woes…

normally, i don’t harp much on other people, but this is getting way out of hand…thumping techno music throughout the night, every single day? I have to blast Enya’s songs to drown out the bass reverbrating through the wall.

Come to think of it, the ethereal-sounding music by Enya is really very nice, soothing and calming. If only I’d realised this earlier, I would probably have listened to it while mugging….

Hmm…How about blasting Enya’s famous Orinoco Flow (read: sail away, sail away…) in retaliation?  Take that, neighbour!

(By the way, I’m still pretty uncertain which neighbour is holding his not-so-private techno party)

XD

end of a beginning

i entered the first semester in uni thinking that with a much stronger mind and improved self-confidence (thanks to the pretty challenging times I had in army), I just might be able to do well, but boy oh boy… how wrong was I. Admittedly, I thought the finals were tough, and when I should have scored, I always had the knack of screwing up. Just goes to show that I have to put in more effort I guess…like what they say… “nvm, SAP 5.0 for next sem!” Hahaha…

Now that first semester has ended, I feel kind of lost at what to do. I’m thinking of getting a cheap, used guitar to up my (don’t puke just yet) appreciation and consciousness of the arts and for some self-entertainment. Also thinking of planning some OG outings, but my CCA meetings just keep getting in the way and with a few OGmates flying off for holidays, it will be tough to set a date. Not to mention my long list to-watch animes, which I always never manage to even touch as I would be doing something else (usually more productive). So, that would leave me some time for football (aka fitness regime) and more time for some devotion to God  - something that I feel I have been neglecting for a pretty long time…

It’s amazing how fast time flies… 3 months whizzed by, and we’ve managed to learn and cram in so many stuff into our heads, more so because of the heavy content-based syllabus of the course.

Can we slow time down a bit?
